How to Apply

The ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Foundation Studies (TCFS) program is the perfect pathway to studying at Australia's highest ranked university, the University of Melbourne.  Applying to study at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ is simple – just make sure you submit your application no later than five weeks from the study commencement date.

There are two ways you can apply:

OPTION 1: Apply via an Overseas Representitive

You can reach out to a registered overseas representative in your home country, who can help you apply for a position at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½. They will assist you with the application process, and can also help organise accommodation and student visas for you.

OPTION 2: Apply Directly to ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½

Information you will need when applying online

You will need to provide the following information to submit this application form:

  • Details of the person submitting the form
  • Student (applicant) details
  • Current school information of the student.

Documents you will need when applying online

The application will be processed faster if you have the following documentation:

  • Certified school transcript/s
  • English language proficiency test results (if applicable)
  • Copy of student passport (if available)
  • Completed SSVF if the application is being submitted by a registered Representative of ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½

Certification of Documents

All documents sent to ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ must be certified as being true copies of sighted originals. Certified translations must accompany documents in languages other than English.

ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ accepts documents certified by the following people:

  • An international diplomatic mission staff member
  • An authorised ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ representative
  • The official records department of the educational institution that issued your original documents
  • A Justice of the Peace
  • A public notary.

Notes for applying online

  • This application form will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. 
  • Should you remain inactive for more than one hour your session will timeout and no information will be stored.
  • There is no ability to save a draft of this form. 
  • Sections marked with an * need to be completed to successfully submit the application.
  • All documents should be supplied as .png, .jpg or .pdf and less than 20Mb.

Our admissions staff will assess your application for entry to TCFS as soon as it is received.

If you are eligible for the program, we will then make you an offer for the intake that best suits your academic level and English requirements.

During peak periods, applications can take up to two weeks to process.

If you are a successful applicant, you will need to:

  • accept your letter of offer by the acceptance deadline
  • organise fee payments
  • have your accommodation choice approved by ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½
  • receive confirmation of enrolment from the University of Melbourne
  • apply for your visa.

HOW TO ENROL

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR OFFER! Please follow the steps below to join Foundation Studies at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½.

ACCEPT YOUR OFFER

You'll receive a letter of offer via email that outlines your intake, the fees payable, your course commencement date and relevant policies, including our refund policy.

To confirm your place at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½, you'll need to:

  • meet any conditions stated in the letter of offer
  • sign and date the acceptance page (this is a legally binding contract under the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia)
  • pay the first fee instalment shown on your letter of offer.

Note: You need to accept your offer at least four weeks before the study commencement date.

Payment of fees (in Australian dollars) can be made via:

  • Flywire –  (our preferred payment partner)
  • bank draft
  • credit card – pay via credit card here
  • telegraphic transfer/direct deposit (add an extra $20 to cover bank charges).

Students under 18 years old

Students who will be under 18 years of age during their studies in Australia must provide evidence to the Department of Home Affairs that they have appropriate accommodation and welfare arrangements in place when they apply for their visa.

There are two options:

Option 1: The student's family nominates an eligible family member to take responsibility for the student

Option 2: Request that ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ issues a Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW)

The student’s parents/legal guardian can request that ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ provides a Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW). The CAAW letter will nominate the dates that ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ will take responsibility for you. Note that students will not be able to arrive in Australia prior to the commencement of the CAAW period.

Find accommodation in Melbourne

There are two main options when finding accomodation in Melbourne:

Option 1: Student apartments

Each student apartment has its own kitchen and bathroom. Apartments may be studio, one or two-bedroom, or three to six-bedroom multi-share, and most are allocated within walking distance, or a short tram ride, to ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½. Some student apartment costs cover electricity, gas and internet access. Students are required to commit to a six to 12-month lease agreement.

Option 2: Private apartments and houses for students over 18 years

Private apartments allow students greater independence while studying at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½. Apartments are usually furnished, and students should allow some time before the commencement of their course to find a suitable option.

Receive your confirmation of enrolment

Once we have received your payment and checked that you meet the Department of Home Affairs guidelines, we will confirm your enrolment by issuing an electronic confirmation of enrolment (e-COE).

Apply for your student visa

Before applying for a student visa, students must be accepted into full-time study in a registered Australian course.

A registered course is an education or training course offered by an Australian education provider registered to offer courses to overseas students on the  (CRICOS).

The Australian Government issues student visas for full-time study on the understanding that you study on-campus and have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of your time in Australia.

To apply for a student visa, contact the Australian Diplomatic Mission (i.e.. Australia Government office) in your home country. Your representative may be an Embassy, High Commission, Consulate or Consulate-General.

Arrive in Melbourne

Melbourne International and Domestic Airport is located approximately 20km northwest of Melbourne.

You have two options for arranging your arrival in Melbourne:

Option 1: Arrange your own transport to your accommodation

Taxis, coaches and hire car services are available from the airport to the city.

Option 2: Book airport reception and transport to your accommodation

This service is available from Melbourne Tullamarine airport only and must be booked in advance. Students will be invoiced for this service after arrival. Costs start from $150 per person. Excess baggage and cancellation fees apply.

It is mandatory for students under 18 years old to book transport to their approved accommodation.

Students arriving on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday must submit their airport reception and transfer request by 11am AEDT on the previous Friday.
